What the numbers don't show
- Card processing (~2.9% + 30¢ per transaction) sits on top of SendOwl, Payhip, Podia, and FileFreight, paid to your own payment account. Gumroad Discover's 30% and Lemon Squeezy's 5% + 50¢ already include it.
- Tax handling: Lemon Squeezy and Gumroad are merchants of record — they handle VAT and sales tax for you. SendOwl, Payhip, Podia, and FileFreight do not; sales-tax responsibility stays with you.
- Discovery: Gumroad's 30% Discover tier buys you placement in their marketplace. If most of your sales come from your own audience, you're paying for distribution you don't use.

Frequently asked questions
What does this calculator include and leave out?
It compares platform cost only: monthly fees plus per-sale platform fees. Card processing (about 2.9% + 30 cents, paid to your own payment account) sits on top of most options. Lemon Squeezy and Gumroad Discover already include processing in their percentages.
When does a flat monthly fee beat a percentage?
Roughly when 19 dollars divided by your per-sale percentage exceeds your monthly volume. At a $20 average order, a 5% plan costs about $1 per sale, so $19 a month flat (FileFreight Pro) beats it once you pass about 19 sales a month.
Why is Lemon Squeezy sometimes cheapest for very low volume?
No monthly fee, so at a handful of sales a month it can beat a $19 subscription — you are trading flat fees for 5% + 50 cents per sale. It is also a merchant of record, so it handles VAT and sales tax for you, which FileFreight does not.
Are these numbers current?
Pricing was checked against each platform's own pricing pages in September 2026 and is re-checked periodically. If a competitor changes plans, this page may lag until the next check.
